Define
From our initial consultation, it was evident that the centre aimed to meet the diverse needs of its community, with a strong emphasis on youth engagement and expanding its current services. Although the initial focus was on a multi-purpose facility, we encouraged a forward-thinking approach to envisioning the site's long-term potential. Through a series of discussions and surveys with various sub-committees, we identified shared values and aspirations on how best to serve the community Collaboratively, we embarked on crafting a masterplan for the site's progressive redevelopment to create a truly vibrant and inclusive community hub.

Delve
Located on the fringe of a broader industrial area, the site had limited sensitive interfaces and design controls that dictated development outcomes. Given the nature of community centre projects, parking considerations were paramount, prompting early analysis to assess patronage and parking needs. Drawing on our community-centric approach, we delved into understanding user behaviours and site circulation patterns, laying the groundwork for effective site planning. Ongoing dialogue with the committee revealed the significance of organising the site into 'quiet' and 'loud' zones to optimise operations and enhance user satisfaction.

Realise
Through a series of internal workshops, our site plan evolved, emphasising inclusivity with well-defined thresholds to ensure an open and welcoming space for all. Introducing amenities like a gym, restaurant, and consulting rooms not only activated the site but also generated commercial opportunities for the centre. The addition of a versatile multi-purpose hall served as a hub for sports, public gatherings, and community events, fostering youth engagement and social interaction. Our design prioritised the reintroduction of landscape through the site, transforming it into an urban oasis amidst industrial surroundings. We also explored innovative solutions like permeable parking spaces to enhance water infiltration and accommodate events like farmers markets. Inspired by its industrial context, the building features contemporary concrete elements, reflecting a contemporary blend of religious and cultural heritage.
